Greg Rhodes successfully defends his title from last year but this year NSW player Lester Peterson pushed him all the way recording the best round at Kooyonga which was 75.
Greg won by 2 shots from Lester Peterson. Players had to deal with 30 to 40 km winds and glassy greens.
The DSR was 77 showing why only 3 players broke 80 at Kooyonga.

Rhodes & Peterson Battle Out Grange/Kooyonga Senior Classis; McPherson Takes Super Seniors
Thursday/Friday 1/2 September – In the tradition started by the late Tony Mazzone, a strong field of 90 players participated at Grange East and Kooyonga. Over a third of the field came from interstate and this was testament to the popularity and quality of this event.
Both courses were superbly presented with hard, fast greens and a strong northerly breeze adding to the challenge. The sun shone and temperatures reached into the 20’s as spring arrived at last.
Under these conditions, the best players tend to rise to the top and this was very much the case with Australia’s number one, Greg Rhodes shooting a superb even par 72 at Grange from the highly credentialed, Lester Peterson (76) and Ken Brewer and Wayne Buick both with 77’s – a clean sweep for the interstate visitors.
In Super Seniors, Ian McPherson made the long trip from WA worthwhile with an 83, winning by one from locals (eventually getting a look in), Alan Cooper and Eric Lane.
Phil Cosgrove easily took out the Grange Seniors Nett with an excellent 71 with Taras Muller (75) in his first event, winning the Grange Super Seniors Nett.
Lester’s turn at Kooyona (75) from Tea Tree Gully’s John Davey (75), Greg Rhodes (77) and Davey eventually getting the better of club mate, Norm Cordina (79).
Ian McPherson left no doubt as to his class, backing up to again win the Super Seniors (82) from Bill Winslow (Grange) 85 and John Anderson (Kooyonga) 86.
Kooyonga Nett results saw Gary Evans (Grange) 74 win the Seniors and Jung Na (75) take the Super Seniors.
Overall Seniors saw Rhodes by only 2 shots from Peterson with McPherson 3 shots clear of Winslow in the Super Seniors.
Overall Nett results went to Peter Shaw and Gary Evans.
At presentations both Tony Timmins (GolfSA/Kooyonga) and Bill Winslow(The Grange) paid tribute to the legacy of Tony Mazzone in promoting senior golf in SA and all present raised a glass to his memory.
