The National Golf Club
March 26-28, 2017

Each year, a Golf Australia Senior Team contests a match against the Australian Defence Forces team.

The event is played over two days, with foursomes and four-ball matches on day one, and singles matches on day two. The event was first played in 2007. This year the event will again be hosted by The National Golf Club on the Mornington Peninsula. The event is played March 26-28 using the same format as the Ryder and President Cups.

This year the honour of captaining the Golf Australia team goes to much travelled and very experienced Queenslander Mike Peeck.

For the second time two senior women golfers have been added to the team. Jacqui Morgan and Helen Pascoe are currently the top two women on the Australian Senior Women's Ranking table and will certainly add strength to the Golf Australia team.

The 2017 team is shown below.

2017 REPORT - ADFGA Team defeats the Golf Australia Senior Team

Thank you to Captain Mike Peeck for his report.

AM 4 Ball Matches Day 1

Monday's 4 ball matches began on the magnificently presented National Ocean Course in a stiff northerly breeze. Golf Australia players performed well with the morning play finishing at ADF 31/2 matches to GA 21/2.

During the round the stiff breeze turned into a howling gale with players struggling to maintain balance. Wins for GA were recorded by Adrian Barr and Mark Abeyaratne 3 and 1, by Mike Peeck and John Kelly 1 up, while Jacqui Morgan and Tim Deakin squared their match. Simon Bracegirdle and Tom Harold, Alan Bullas and Mark Gatty, and Helen Pascoe and Whippy Wellington lost hotly contested matches.

PM Foursomes Matches Day 1

After a short lunch break the foursomes players hit off in ever worsening weather conditions. Unfortunately heavy winds, driving rain, and then lightning and thunder soon descended on the field with the siren sounding to end play. With another threatening weather system moving in, play was abandoned for the day.

Individual Matches Day 2

The weather for the final day was breezy but clear and pleasant; a great day for golf.

All matches were tight and played in a friendly but competitive manner. The final results was ADF 14.5 matches defeated the GA team 9.5.

Congratulations to the ADF team on their win and congratulations also to the members of the GA team who all played so very well and represented us so proudly. A special thanks to Tom Harold who stepped to the plate to play No 1 and take on Derrin Morgan who is a real talent.

There is no doubt that this match is growing in stature and importance. Therese Magdulski from Golf Australia attended the Dinner and both she and Air Marshall Leo Davis both expressed a desire to see this annual match grow into the future.
