After leading from the opening round Mowbray golfer Michael Leedham has won the 2016 Tasmanian Senior Amateur Championship. His final round score of 74 saw Leedham (72-72-74) finish six strokes ahead of West Australian newcomer Steve Graham who impressed with rounds of 74, 73 and a closing 77.

In a tie for third place were NSW senior Greg Ellis (76-76-73) and Victorian Mick Streit (75-76-74).

Leedham has now won this championship six times and he has now been the leading Tasmanian senior golfer for a decade or more.

Still the leader in the Tasmanian Senior Amateur Championship after the second round is local member and five times men’s senior amateur champion, Michael Leedham.

Leedham sits at two-over-par after today’s round of 72 and continues to lead Western Australia’s Stephen Graham on five-over-par. Graham carded a two-over round of 73 today. New South Wales’ Vince Clark is a further two strokes adrift in third place on seven-over after a round of 72.

Round 1 Report

Tasmania's best senior golfer and local Mowbray member Michael Leedham has the first round lead in the 2016 Tasmanian Senior Amateur Championship.

Mowbray Golf Club, Tasmania A one over par score of 72 on the tight Mowbray course gave Leedham a two stroke lead from David McClelland (NSW) and West Australian visitor Stephen Graham. Victorians Alan Bullas and Mick Streit are next  on 75, a stroke ahead of NSW Senior Greg Ellis who finished on 76. 

Even at this early stage it does appear that the winner will come from this leading group.

Once again the Tasmanian Senior Amateur Championship returns to the Mowbray Golf Club in Launceston, Tasmania. This lovely regional course has been the venue for many years and still remains a favourite of many locals and interstate senior golfers.

This is the third event of the new senior ranking year following the 2015 ACT Seniors and the 2016 Royal Melbourne Senior Classic.
