Ian Frost wins in Playoff
Round 3 Report
Victorian Ian Frost has won a very exciting 2015 South Australian Senior Amateur Championship at Links Lady Bay Golf Club.
Holding a three stroke lead overnight Frost fired a final round of 76 in a round that included four bogies and fourteen pars. While he was playing consistently fellow Victorian Gordon Claney was on fire with seven birdies in his round of three under par 69. That meant he had drawn level with Frost and a play off would be needed..
Report from KB (our on the course reporter and photographer):
"The final round was played in overcast conditions with a enough breeze to keep all players honest, especially after a morning shower left. The winner was decided on the third play off hole after Ian Frost and Gordon Claney had tied on a score of 227.
Whilst Frost had led going into this final round and had a solid 76, Claney came storming home with the best score of the event, a fine 69. The play off hole was the ninth, a very solid par four playing back into the breeze. Both parred the first time with Claney making a good up and down from the front right of the green and Frost making a solid two putt.
The second time both hit the green with Frost almost in the exact same position and he putted first - a good putt but not in the hole. Claney gave his shorter birdie putt a reasonable look at the hole without dropping. Both parred the hole so back to the tee.
The third time around Claney found an average lie just off the left edge of the fairway and from there short sided himself into the right hand bunker and facing an extremely difficult shot. Frost in the meantime played to just short of the green and lagged his putt beautifully to inches from the hole. Claney came out of the bunker but was unable to make his par.
Victory at the third play off hole to Ian Frost. A just reward for his solid play through the three rounds on a course which was not easy and greens that proved a handful.
In third place was Chris Gordon on 233 with a good 75 in the last round to pip on a count back local Nigel Turner also with a 75 and the defending champion John Banting who faded with a 79.
Whilst the weather was cool and breezy on all three days, the scores reflected the challenge the course presented, especially the large and undulating greens. To Links Lady Bay for the way the course was presented a big thank you, along with the spotters on a couple of holes where they were needed. Let's not forget the Golf SA personnel who made it all happen."

Round 1 Report
The scores reflect the challenging conditions that the players found during the first round of the South Australian Seniors at Links Lady Bay. The weather was mostly overcast with a good solid southerly blowing and cool temperatures making scoring difficult. The course was set up very well for senior golf and was well received from all the players. Whilst the greens were in good condition everybody had stories of three putts. Some many of them.
The leading score of 75 from Ian Frost (Bendigo) reflects the difficult conditions. He was closely followed by Rod Phillips (Royal Adelaide) with 76 then Scott Richardson (Tura Beach) on 77.
Defending champion John Banting (Royal Perth) was on 78 alongside newcomer to senior events in John Davey (Tea Tree Gully).
The forecast for tomorrow is for kinder weather conditions with the hope of some lower scores from some of the leading players who will need to improve to challenge on the final day.
